Filida (((Debra M.))) asked:

My son is being treated for a raging sinus infection that just won’t go away. The pressure in his ears is driving him crazy.

He’s on antibiotics, but is there a way to relieve some of the symptoms? He’s on a humidifier, nasal spray, drinking hot tea already.

Thanks.

    Sinus Pressure

It may be a build up of the infection in his sinus/nasal cavities. The pus is under the mucus membranes and is building up pressure. Because of the antibiotics killing off the infection, the build-up is rapidly outpacing his body’s own way to eliminate it.

Have him to blow his nose occasionally (but NOT to hard) and that may help to “burst” the build-up of pus. Once it starts running out, that will alleviate most of the pressure and pain…

If he doesn’t improve in a day or two, i would most certainly contact his doctor…

    GOOD LUCK !!!

Caveat: I am NOT a doctor, but I have friends who have had success with sinus infections by cleaning out their sinuses regularly with warm saline solution.

They use either a syringe or one of those rubber bulb things that you clean babies’ ears with, and they inject the warm solution up into their sinus cavities then blow it out again.

Personally I couldn’t do that. I can’t stand having water in my sinuses. But it seems to work for them.

Good luck to you and your kiddo.

I’ve heard the Neti Pots work REALLY well. But they are gross.
