Drink a Monster asked:

I can barely breathe out of my nose and my head feels like it is going to pop! I tried Sudafed but it didn’t work. What can I do to help myself, and what might the problem be?

Accupressure can help. Press on the spot under your eye where your cheekbone meets your upper jaw (in the hollow). This often helps me. A good steamy shower or some really spicy food could help as well.

As for your problem… allergies or a cold, most likely. If it doesn’t clear up in a week or so, I’d go to the doctor.

I like to use those eyemasks you put in the fridge… at first it feels like you have an ice cream headache, but soon it feels good. If it doesn’t go away, it might be a sinus infection, in which case you might need antibiotics to clear it up…

    1) Cut out mucus-forming dairy foods such as milk, cheese, yoghurt.

    2) Try flushing out your nasal cavity using a ‘Neti’ dish – type Jala Neti – it is a dish you fill with rock salt and warm water and pour in the nose but get decent instruction on how to do it please.

    3) Cut out irritants to the nose such as tobacco smoke, pollution, dust (maybe vacuum more and change sheets more often).

    4) Slow deep breaths in and out > then count 6 breathing in, hold for 6 then out for 6, repeat for 5 mins per day. This will trick the mind into believing it is oxygen starved which helps change the mucous levels in the nose over time.

Hang your head over a steaming pot of water, and cover it with a towel. Use warm compresses and massage on the painful areas. When you go to bed put small bandaid magnets on the painful areas. Avoid all dairy. Drink lots of liquids including warm soups, herbal teas, etc. Also try the Juice’s Lady’s “Sinus Solution” – juice 2 tomatoes, 4 radishes, and 1/2 small lemon or lime.
