okey, i’ve been sick for a week. ive been practically living on dayquil and nyquil. coughing, sneezing, sinus headaches, fluid in my lungs, the works. last nite i bought mucinex and took two. about an hour later i started throwing up uncontrollably. looked kinda like bad lentil soup (combination of a slice of pizza, phlegm(looked like lots of lentils), and vanilla coke) after that, i could finally breathe again. My question is whether or not the mucinex is what made me throw up. The bottle says its an expectorant, i assume that means it helps to break up the phlegm so you can cough it up, but i didnt cough any phlegm up. i puked it up. is that a normal response to mucinex?

No, that is not a normal response to Mucinex. It sounds like the pizza may have been bad.
Try chicken soup for your next meal. It has restorative properties which have been documented by science, although nobody knows exactly how it works. It is also easier on your stomach.

not the mucinex if it wasn’t phlegm. if you are sick, you shouldn’t be eating that kind of food. stick with the chicken broth & jello.

it could be that youre allergic to some ingreident in the medicine, i know that my friends daughter had asthma and her lungs would fill up with gunk making it hard for her to breathe,so my friend would give her somthing to make her sick to her stomach, she threw up and she felt better after this as it got rid of the crap in her lungs maybe thats what the mucinex did to you,you felt better soi guess it was the mucinex doing it.

OMG! My dad takes mucinex. He says that this is perfectly normal. It means its working well. Your body doesnt want all the mucus inside you so that is its way of getting rid of it!! Hope you feel better!!!

I have taken mucinex and coughed up and spit up phlegm, but my daughter like you puked it up. She pretty much choked on it and then began vomiting. So I think it is a normal response for some. The best thing is you got the snot loose and out. Now keep drinking lots of fluid to keep yourself hydrated. The active ingredient in mucinex is Guaifenesin. See the below link to read more on the effects of mucinex.
